who?

"Millenials are lazy". Have you ever heard that? Spoiled, unfocused, impatient are other words that are frequently used to describe us. But being the first generation that has lived entirely with social media, indeed even just the internet, has opened doors that previously were reserved for the truly adventurous. Being bombarded with images and opportunities constantly is not something that we should feel allows us to be victims though. What I am looking for is real, honest and constructive dialogue about why an increasing number of young people feel so lost. And luckily I am not alone in this.

"Be the change you want to see in the world" said Gandhi. My small part in trying to find a solution to the problem, is this homepage and my personal story being shared. It's also the coaching I do to help individuals explore and live the life they long for.

Everyone deserves to be happy or content or fulfilled (insert whichever term you prefer) - but as a starting point, I think it is important that everyone is treated with COMPASSION. Even the "millenials" ;)

why?

Why do I feel stuck? Why can't I find the motivation? Why do I feel embarrassed by not being able to figure this out? Why do I feel like I am in the wrong place? Why do I get stomach aches and cry so easily? Why am I doing what I'm doing?

Why should I do anything?

Let me help you to explore and discover the opportunities and passions that are true for YOUR life.

what do I offer?

I am passionate about the importance of making daily life vibrant and healthy. In order for you to lead a healthy and fulfilling life, many areas of your life, or perhaps just one in particular, may need to be adjusted. Sometimes these actions are hard to identify, accept or implement, and often we find ourselves in need of assistance - a partner if you will! I am that partner!

I do coaching sessions by email, phone or Skype. The reason why I have chosen this format is to keep costs low for the client, make it convenient and easy to get appointments and also in order to allow me to live the life I truly desire. You should too.

what i don't do

Any diagnosing or treatment of medical issues, is NOT within the scope of coaching. If you have medical questions, please contact your own doctor.

Taking responsibility for changes a client choses to make in their life is NOT something I am willing to do. Coaching is goal oriented and confidence building dialogue, NOT a means of shying away from personal responsibility.

Who am i?

Hi, my name is Elisabeth Waagensen

Qualifications:

Certified Medical Doctor from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark.

Certified Health Coach from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition, New York.

Concept:

The idea behind the HEALTH + COACHING section of mind the space, stems from my many years of interest in health and preventive medicine, public health and particularly childrens and womens health issues.  Having worked several years with conventional western medicine, as a doctor in Internal Medicine, a Family Practice (GP's office) and in Radiology, I noticed that my primary interest focused on broader health issues and personal motivation for living a vibrant, healthy and fulfilling life. This area is not always supported in the conventional system, either because of lack of time in the department or practice, or because the physician is not sufficiently schooled in coaching and motivational dialogues.

I believe that many of the modern lifestyle diseases that are currently evident, stem from a shift in the cultural approach to food and health. A general understanding and focus on real whole foods and the preparation of healthy and nutritious food is being forgotten. With proper nutrition, moderate exercise and healthy emotional relationships, every person should experience an improvement in their immediate and long term health. I believe that we as individuals have a much greater propensity to make good, healthy and caring choices, for ourselves and our families, and indeed our community, when all areas of our lives are taken care off in a responsible way.

I have myself used the services of a very skilled and compassionate coach in my search for a direction in my professional life that feels more real and true for my vision of my life. I work daily to keep moving forward in a positive, creative and healthy way, that is in accordance with my personal goals.

Giving advice and not taking it, was something that I was really good at for a long time. But after having accepted and actually embraced my deep rooted need for travel and independence, I find that I give much more authentic and heartfelt advice too.

This active approach to health (in all areas of life and your physical health) is what a Coach is trained to work with.

My focus as a Coach is to engage the client in meaningful dialogues and come with concrete and positive suggestions to help them achieve their goals. Whether they be specific; such as a wish to lose weight, or more abstract; such as a feeling of being unfulfilled or lacking direction in life.

The name: mind the space, is a wordplay on the English expression “mind the gap”, often heard in the London Underground. But it also has a double meaning, as being “mindful” is an expression of being aware, and creating peace and space for thoughts and development, and about respecting your self and your surroundings. Seen in this light, I hope the name symbolizes the idea behind this business, which is precisely the mission: to explore your challenges, and then work together to create peace and calm in your mind and your environment, in order to enable you to work, think and live!  On a more academic level, it is also a question of the professional having the birds eye view and expertise to be able to manage the client’s needs, and from that, design and implement ideas and actions that are appropriate to achieving the clients goals.
